So what’s it all about?

The love that’s lain a little bit dormant!

Hello and welcome to my blog. I’m Yana Prendergast (you can call me Prendy).
For years I was also known to family and friends as Lil Miss Bump due to an odd habit I had when I started biking almost 20 years ago, of falling off far more than was good for me. But at least I bounce well!

I’ll start by confessing that when I began this blog back in 2011, youth, adrenaline, enthusiasm and non-creaking joints were on my side!
Where once I wouldn’t have hesitated to venture out in all sorts of mad weather those days are long gone. I can admit that my love of two wheels if not dead, has certainly been dormant long before Covid and Lockdown meant we were all mothballing our bikes. Yet I still hung onto my wheels as I couldn’t quite imagine life without them. I also work on a part-time basis in marketing for my husband’s firm, White Dalton Motorcycle Solicitors, so it’s really helpful if I’m actually back on my wheels too!

But no more time wasting – this year is my big birthday (the five oh) and I don’t want to look back in years to come and find myself wishing I’d done more. So I’m dusting my bike off (currently a 2015 MT09 Tracer), and squeezing into my leathers and planning to rekindle my love affair with two wheels and the adventures they provide.

When I started this blog I wanted to call it Things They Don’t Tell You About Biking Cos They Think You Already Know – And You Don’t!
Because everyone around me considered a lot of stuff common knowledge. For instance – everyone assumed during my training that I knew how to countersteer. But if you’d never even ridden a bicycle then why would you know????
(I didn’t learn to ride a bicycle until the week before my biking lessons and still hadn’t quite got the hang of it when they started.)

I called it “A Bird’s Eye View To Biking” because I wanted a spotlight to focus on things I learned such as more training, good and bad days of riding, kit and bike reviews. I have a soft spot for my old site so I’ve hung onto it and rather than ditch all the posts I’ve dusted off a few and reinstated them on this site as they might still be of interest – such as the amazeball qualities of custom made ear plugs! (Keep an eye out as I’m about to get my next pair too.) So please bear with me if some of my posts seem years old! I promise I’m adding new ones all the time.

Looking ahead, it’s time to see what’s around the next corner,  so I hope you’ll come along for the ride and read my blog to take in the sights, enjoy the meets  – and wish you were there for the obligatory mugs of tea and the bacon sarnie too!

And just to show that life has a way of making you smile – despite my beloved husband maintaining and ensuring my bike is always good to go should I ever decide I want to ride, the little b*gger decided to have a hissy fit with a flat battery the very first time I wanted to go out! But undeterred, I found the compact beast of a battery charging kit my guy keeps for his off road bike and (once I’d worked out which bit was for red and which was for black!)  within seconds my baby boy was up and ready to run – and behaved himself all day 🙂

Ride safe 🙂

Prendy x
